Connect with 200+ national, state, local lobbyists working on behalf of your business
SAFE fights for you, your business and your employees. The restaurant industry is a powerful economic force, yet legislators and special interest groups introduce dozens of anti-restaurant bills and regulations each year. Our goal is to build a powerful advocacy arm at both the national and state levels. Whatever the issue, we want the Save American Free Enterprise Fund (SAFE) positioned to fight the next legislative battle, not the last. SAFE relies on contributions from those who work within and are associated with the restaurant industry. Donating to SAFE helps ensure that every fight has the leadership and financial resources necessary to win. With your financial support, we will be better equipped to engage in public policy that benefits restaurateurs and advocate for positive change for our industry and the people we serve.
Save American Free Enterprise is the restaurant industry's primary platform to advocate on legislative and regulatory issues important to restaurants of all sizes. SAFE advocates for restaurants in cooperation with the National Restaurant Association, state restaurant associations, independent and multi-unit restaurateurs and other partners.
Since 1996, SAFE has raised and spent nearly $7 million to protect the restaurant industry from dozens of anti-restaurant legislation such as wage and paid leave mandates, as well as support for the industry’s position on issues of food safety, sodium reduction, menu labeling, and the Employee Free Choice Act.
Each time an interest group or a legislator proposes a new mandate or a new tax, there is the potential for restaurants to be hit hard. Restaurants need to be prepared to act -- which is why SAFE exists.
We provide education, expert resources and direct financial grants support. Working closely with state restaurant associations, we ensure new laws and regulations are not enacted without input from the industry. SAFE Funds are used for national advocacy campaigns and are shared with state restaurant associations to fight local and state battles and stop the spread of bad bills from one state to another. The National Restaurant Association collects and administers the funds.
Our agenda covers a broad range of issues affecting restaurants, including food safety, menu and labeling information, trans fat bans, card-check legislation, H-2B visas, health care, minimum wage, work opportunity tax credit, credit card interchange “swipe” fees, estate tax repeal, restaurant depreciation and small business access to capital.
